  • Drywall removal
  • Mold spray and removal
  • Sponging soot off walls

Just to name a few. Now, in case you’re wondering what our step-by-step process is for a typical water loss here’s a quick rundown. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills will show to he the property to greet the customer and shut the water off, if not done so already. Next we will extract any standing water in affected areas. Afterwards we will test the moisture contained within walls as well as underneath carpet, tile and wood flooring to examine how far the water migrated to. While one technician gets moisture readings another will usually be getting measurements of all affected rooms in order to complete a sketch of the loss source. Once we get the OK to begin demolition, we will proceed to cut and remove any affected materials (I.e. drywall, carpet, tile, wood floor, etc). Lastly, we will place air movers and dehumidifiers to both suck the moisture out of the air and to create intense air movement for drying.

On top of the usual losses we also offer a COVID-19 preventative spray which ensures disinfection of any lingering coronavirus in an affected area. With our 100% guaranteed safe antimicrobial spray SERVPROXIDE. There are a lot of water restoration companies out there but SERVPRO of Centennial Hills in Las Vegas is the one that gets the job done correctly and efficiently because the SERVPRO way is to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Damaged drywall from fire Call SERVPRO of CENTENNIAL HILLS before trying to clean soot!!

A fire in your home is a scary thought but it also a possibility for anyone. Fires spread quickly and leave only a few minutes for families to escape. Families should have a safety plan in place and practice it to be sure everyone in the home knows what to do in case of a fire.

The National Fire Protection Association gives the following tips in creating an escape plan:

  • Pull together everyone in your household and make a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes.  Households with children should consider drawing a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Also, mark the location of each smoke alarm.
  • A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.
  • When you walk through your plan, check to make sure the escape routes are clear and doors and windows can be opened easily.
  • Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance in front of your home where everyone can meet after they've escaped.
  • Go outside to see if your street number is clearly visible from the road. If not, paint it on the curb or install house numbers to ensure that responding emergency personnel can find your home.
  • If there are infants, older adults, or family members with mobility limitations, make sure that someone is assigned to assist them in the fire drill and in the event of an emergency. Assign a backup person too, in case the designee is not home during the emergency
  • If windows or doors in your home have security bars, make sure that the bars have emergency release devices inside so that they can be opened immediately in an emergency. Emergency release devices won't compromise your security - but they will increase your chances of safely escaping a home fire.
  • Tell guests or visitors to your home about your family's fire escape plan. When staying overnight at other people's homes, ask about their escape plan. If they don't have a plan in place, offer to help them make one. This is especially important when children are permitted to attend "sleepovers" at friends' homes.
  • Once you're out, stay out! Under no circumstances should you ever go back into a burning building. If someone is missing, inform the fire department dispatcher when you call. Firefighters have the skills and equipment to perform rescues.

Your first line of notification is the fire alarms, practice regular maintenance on smoke detectors. Review your plan often and make changes as needed.

Storm Ready

Home patio flooded with mud Rain storm causing a mud slide into local residential home.

Flood damage can be devastating for homeowners and restoring normality after water damage is no easy task. Las Vegas residents have seen the massive flooding in the valley, cars being swept away, and rescue mission from first responders but what we don't always see is the damage done to the homes after the flood. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills has some tips for those that live in known flood zones or even for those who want be proactive in safeguarding their property.

  • During stormy weather conditions, lock all doors and windows
  • Place sandbags around door and window openings: keep sandbags in your garage or storage to be prepared for these occasions
  • Collect other emergency materials like buckets, plywood, waterproof plastic sheeting, duct tape, and shovels
  • Listen out for flood alerts in your area
  • Run through an emergency procedure with your family – plan what you will do and where you will go if a flood hits
  • Ensure everyone in the house knows how to shut off utilities in an emergency
  • Store your important documents and valuable items in a secure, high location – like a secure water-tight safe stored on top of a wardrobe, or in the highest point of your house
  • Install flood-proof doors in your home (or at least the outside doors) to prevent all possible water from entering the property.

We hope these tips have helped you prepare for future floods, whether you reside in Vegas or elsewhere. Remember to keep safe and seek shelter on high ground as soon as possible during flooding.

Rain storms wreaking havoc!

Tarping of roof Temporary tarping of a roof.

Las Vegas can go 100+ days with no rain, but we are no stranger to heavy rainstorms in the valley. We often see news reports about flash flooding and traffic accidents but we do not always hear about the damages it causes to homes here in Las Vegas. The most common issue SERVPRO of Centennial Hills comes across during or even after a rain storm is a roof leak. Normal wear and tear on a roof can lead to a leak during a storm. Heavy winds can also cause damage to the roof then result in a leak. Water travels through the damaged area and begins to pool on a flat surface. As the amount of water increases and time passes by the materials begin to weaken. You can see in this photo that a temporary tarp is being put in place until the roof repair has been made. Water will eventually make its way into the dwelling causing ceiling drywall staining and paint deterioration.  You then risk the potential growth of mold and mildew. It is important to have trained professionals like SERVPRO of Centennial Hills arrive on site as soon as possible to remove the damaged materials and begin the process of drying the structure to eliminate further damage.
