Top Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Restoration Company
10/16/2024 (Permalink)
If you’re in Las Vegas, NV, and need help after water damage, fire, or mold, SERVPRO of Centennial Hills is here to help.
When disaster strikes, whether it's water damage, fire, or mold, choosing the right restoration company is crucial to getting your home or business back to normal. In Las Vegas, NV, where extreme weather events and other emergencies can happen unexpectedly, it’s important to know what to look for in a restoration company. Asking the right questions before hiring a restoration service can save you time, money, and stress. Here are the top questions you should ask to ensure you’re making the best choice.
1. Are You Licensed and Insured?
One of the first things to ask any restoration company is whether they are properly licensed and insured. In Nevada, restoration companies are required to hold specific licenses to operate legally. A licensed company has met the state's requirements for training and expertise, ensuring they can handle the job professionally. Additionally, insurance is essential because it protects you and the company in case of accidents or damage during the restoration process. Without proper insurance, you could be held liable for any mishaps that occur on your property
2. What Certifications Do Your Technicians Have?
Restoration work requires specialized skills and knowledge. Ask about the certifications held by the company’s technicians. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is a globally recognized organization that provides certification for restoration professionals. According to the IICRC, having certified technicians means the team has undergone rigorous training and adheres to industry standards. Hiring a company with IICRC-certified technicians ensures that your property will be restored using the best practices and latest techniques.
3. Do You Offer 24/7 Emergency Services?
Disasters don’t wait for convenient times to happen. Whether it’s a flood in the middle of the night or a fire over the weekend, you need a restoration company that offers 24/7 emergency services. Fast response is crucial to minimizing damage and beginning the restoration process as quickly as possible. Ask if the company is available around the clock and how quickly they can be on-site after an emergency call.
4. What Is Your Estimated Timeline and Cost?
Understanding the expected timeline and cost for your restoration project is essential for planning and peace of mind. Ask for a detailed estimate that includes all potential costs and a clear timeline for the completion of the work. Keep in mind that while an estimate is helpful, the final cost can vary depending on the extent of the damage and any unforeseen issues that arise during the restoration process. A reliable company will keep you informed of any changes and work with you to stay within your budget.
5. How Do You Handle Insurance Claims?
Navigating insurance claims can be a complex and stressful part of the restoration process. It’s helpful to work with a company that has experience dealing with insurance companies. Ask if the restoration company will assist you with the claims process, including documenting damage, providing estimates, and communicating with your insurance adjuster. Some companies may even offer direct billing to your insurance provider, reducing the hassle for you.
Making the Right Choice in Las Vegas, NV
Choosing the right restoration company is key to ensuring that your home or business is restored efficiently and effectively. By asking these important questions, you can feel confident that you’re hiring a team that’s experienced, reliable, and prepared to handle your restoration needs. Water extraction process

Working vigorously to extract water from carpet in order to limit further water exposure to materials.
Water losses are the most common form of damage found in homes and can be caused by a numerous variety of ways such as a damaged or non-sealed pipe, toilet overflow, cracks in the shower/tub, a leaking kitchen sink, etc. If someone experiences any of these types of water damages, look no further than SERVPRO of Centennial Hills.
SERVPRO of Centennial Hills will come out the same day, shut the water off, if necessary, and begin extracting standing water on property in order to limit the extent of damages. Using our high powered truck mount extractor we can suck up standing water in a matter of minutes, but it doesn’t stop there.
Once all visible water has been extracted, we start looking for the “not so visible” details like moisture trapped inside of drywall and wooden studs with our penetrating meter. This allows us to get precise readings on the amount of water that was absorbed in the walls and structure of the property. Next we see how high up the walls the water migrated to in order to determine how high and how much of drywall needs to be removed for the drying process to begin. After all saturated materials have been removed, equipment is placed, such as air movers and dehumidifiers, to take moisture out of the air while releasing warm air with movement to ensure the maximum amount of drying is taking place.
The last step is having SERVPRO come back out to the property to conduct daily monitoring of the equipment to ensure everything that needs to be dry is dry and taken care of until we no longer need the equipment on property.

In life we take things for granted for example garages. We come home, park the car in the garage and head right inside the house day in and day out not taking time toglance around the garage. It is very important to take the time to look around all areas of your home including the garage and look for signs of change that do not seem right for example paint discoloration or that familiar term everyone uses “COFFEE STAINING” brownish look on walls and ceiling. If you happen to see this at your residence or commercial properties, the smart thing to do is call us immediately so we can test for moisture and find where the problem is coming from and prevent secondary damage of mold growth.
The picture shows air movers, dehumidifiers and ducting to pump hot dry air to the affected area to help speed up the drying process of materials.

Plumbing failure

Removed ceiling drywall to prevent falling materials.
Water Intrusion from Ceiling plumbing leak. There are many areas of a home that may be affected by water damage due to natural “wear and tear” that happens inside the walls that most people wont see or recognize. In this specific instance the customer contacted SERVPRO of Centennial Hills because of water beginning to flood the downstairs kitchen and into the living room.
Once we arrived on scene we shut the main water supply off from the street, which is always the “go-to” when no other water shut off can be found on property. After the water supply was shut off, we began extracting the water to get as much of it up as possible off the floor to minimize as much damage as possible. Once the water is extracted the next step is get out moisture meters to test which walls contain water inside them in order to perform one to two foot flood cuts to open up the walls and let them “breathe”. This way, with everything opened, we can see where the broken pipe was causing the leak.
The last step after extracting and demolition have occurred is to place equipment such as dehumidifiers and air-movers. This is to get any moisture out of the air and to get airflow in the affected area(s) moving to ensure the walls and flooring are dried efficiently and in a timely manner.
