Catastrophic Fire

Fire damaged love seat Fire damaged love seat and drywall.

A fire in your home is a scary thought but it also a possibility for anyone. Fires spread quickly and leave only a few minutes for families to escape. Families should have a safety plan in place and practice it to be sure everyone in the home knows what to do in case of a fire.

The National Fire Protection Association gives the following tips in creating an escape plan:

  • Pull together everyone in your household and make a plan. Walk through your home and inspect all possible exits and escape routes.  Households with children should consider drawing a floor plan of your home, marking two ways out of each room, including windows and doors. Also, mark the location of each smoke alarm.
  • A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home.
  • When you walk through your plan, check to make sure the escape routes are clear and doors and windows can be opened easily.
  • Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance in front of your home where everyone can meet after they've escaped.
  • Go outside to see if your street number is clearly visible from the road. If not, paint it on the curb or install house numbers to ensure that responding emergency personnel can find your home.
  • If there are infants, older adults, or family members with mobility limitations, make sure that someone is assigned to assist them in the fire drill and in the event of an emergency. Assign a backup person too, in case the designee is not home during the emergency
  • If windows or doors in your home have security bars, make sure that the bars have emergency release devices inside so that they can be opened immediately in an emergency. Emergency release devices won't compromise your security - but they will increase your chances of safely escaping a home fire.
  • Tell guests or visitors to your home about your family's fire escape plan. When staying overnight at other people's homes, ask about their escape plan. If they don't have a plan in place, offer to help them make one. This is especially important when children are permitted to attend "sleepovers" at friends' homes.
  • Once you're out, stay out! Under no circumstances should you ever go back into a burning building. If someone is missing, inform the fire department dispatcher when you call. Firefighters have the skills and equipment to perform rescues.

Your first line of notification is the fire alarms, practice regular maintenance on smoke detectors. Review your plan often and make changes as needed.

Winter storms preparedness

11/15/2023 (Permalink)

Mountain cabin Preparing your home for the winter is a constant if you are expecting snow and rain.

When you think of Las Vegas you think of blistering hot summer days, after all Las Vegas is among the 10 hottest cities. If you are new to Las Vegas then freezing pipes may be at the bottom of the list when it comes to your concerns as a homeowner but during the winter months temperatures can drop to the low 30's.

It is important to take the necessary measures to prevent pipes from freezing during the frigid temperatures. Burst pipes can result in property destruction, health hazards and even financial burden.

We hope you find the following tips helpful in caring for your pipes during the winter months.

*Ensure your pipes are well insulated. Pay special attention to outside water piping.

*Apply heat tape to your outside water pipes. Wrapping pipes with heat tape can help slow the freezing process down.

*Keep your thermostat on when traveling out of town. Avoid setting the thermostat below 55 degrees when leaving.

*Leave a tiny trickle of water running from the faucets. While we do not recommend to waist water, a small steady stream is a proven strategy.

Making preventive pipe maintenance a priority is always best practice.

Lightning

11/15/2023 (Permalink)

Lightning over Las Vegas Lightning can be catastrophic to a business or home.

The Las Vegas skies are no stranger to the amazing light shows that a lightning storm can bring. We found some crazy facts about lightning that we would like to share.

*Lightning can create heat three times hotter than the surface of the sun. Although lightning it self has no temperature.

* Lightning can strike the same place more than once. The Empire State Building is reportedly struck about 23 times a year.

* A single lightning bolt can strike more than one place at the same time.

* Lightning bolts are actually very thin measuring between one and seven inches in diameter.

*Lightning channels have been reported to measure as long as 90 miles.

*Florida experiences more lightning than any other state in the U.S., while Venezuela has more than anywhere on earth.

*Thunder can not exist without lightning.

*A single lightning bolt can have up to a billion volts of electricity.

* more than one billion lightning strikes hit earth each year.

Lightning shows can be beautiful to see in the night sky but can also be dangerous. Lightning is reportedly responsible for an estimated 24,000 deaths worldwide each year. Stay safe!

We can get it done!

Backyard damaged by vehicle Cleanup of debris from auto accident.

SERVPRO of Centennial Hills in Las Vegas offers professional preventative services to ensure your property is maintained to the highest standards in order to prevent excessive water, fire and/or mold damages. We make sure our company vehicles are always stocked and ready to go with all the tools needed for any loss so that we may arrive to the customer’s property in a timely fashion as well as getting the job done swiftly yet efficiently.

Services offered though SERVPRO of Centennial Hills include:

  • Water extraction
  • Carpet shampooing
  • Air deodorizations
  • Carpet removal
  • Tile removal
  • Wood floor removal
  • Drywall removal
  • Mold spray and removal
  • Sponging soot off walls

Just to name a few. Now, in case you’re wondering what our step-by-step process is for a typical water loss here’s a quick rundown. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills will show to he the property to greet the customer and shut the water off, if not done so already. Next we will extract any standing water in affected areas. Afterwards we will test the moisture contained within walls as well as underneath carpet, tile and wood flooring to examine how far the water migrated to. While one technician gets moisture readings another will usually be getting measurements of all affected rooms in order to complete a sketch of the loss source. Once we get the OK to begin demolition, we will proceed to cut and remove any affected materials (I.e. drywall, carpet, tile, wood floor, etc). Lastly, we will place air movers and dehumidifiers to both suck the moisture out of the air and to create intense air movement for drying.

On top of the usual losses we also offer a COVID-19 preventative spray which ensures disinfection of any lingering coronavirus in an affected area. With our 100% guaranteed safe antimicrobial spray SERVPROXIDE. There are a lot of water restoration companies out there but SERVPRO of Centennial Hills in Las Vegas is the one that gets the job done correctly and efficiently because the SERVPRO way is to make it “Like it never even happened.”

When plumbing fails

11/15/2023 (Permalink)

Damaged wood subfloor from failed toilet seal Deterioration of wood subfloor from failed toilet seal.

Here at SERVPRO of Centennial Hills, we’ve seen it all and we’ve done it all. We got a call from a customer whose toilet had been leaking from the toilet seal and crept into her carpet. SERVPRO was immediately dispatched to the customer’s home. Upon arrival we noticed there was carpet in the bathroom as well as a significant majority of the house that was affected (Typically bathrooms nowadays will usually have tile, vinyl or hardwood flooring instead of carpet). We noticed the toilet was loose with little to no caulking around the base.

Once the source of loss has been identified, it’s time to get to work! SERVPRO of Centennial Hills fired up the truck mount and began extracting any standing water or water that seeped into the carpet. Next we begin removing the carpet, carpet pad and tack strip. Once all flooring is out, we removed the toilet and noticed an old and damaged wax ring. The next course of action was to immediately replace the wax ring, set the toilet back into place, hook up the water supply line and put a fresh bead of caulking all around the base of the toilet the seal it.

This loss ended up as a Category 3 due to contaminated water that had been in contact with hazardous waste instead of a fresh water source such as the toilet supply line itself. This just goes to show that the smallest, everyday details most people miss on a daily basis can end up costing the most amount of damage. With our expert team, we were able to remove contaminated materials from the customer’s home, treat the home with SERVPROXIDE for any possibly mold growth, save the subfloor and give the custom peace of mind.

Water extraction process

1/6/2023 (Permalink)

Water extraction from carpet Working vigorously to extract water from carpet in order to limit further water exposure to materials.

Water losses are the most common form of damage found in homes and can be caused by a numerous variety of ways such as a damaged or non-sealed pipe, toilet overflow, cracks in the shower/tub, a leaking kitchen sink, etc. If someone experiences any of these types of water damages, look no further than SERVPRO of Centennial Hills.

SERVPRO of Centennial Hills will come out the same day, shut the water off, if necessary, and begin extracting standing water on property in order to limit the extent of damages. Using our high powered truck mount extractor we can suck up standing water in a matter of minutes, but it doesn’t stop there.

Once all visible water has been extracted, we start looking for the “not so visible” details like moisture trapped inside of drywall and wooden studs with our penetrating meter. This allows us to get precise readings on the amount of water that was absorbed in the walls and structure of the property. Next we see how high up the walls the water migrated to in order to determine how high and how much of drywall needs to be removed for the drying process to begin. After all saturated materials have been removed, equipment is placed, such as air movers and dehumidifiers, to take moisture out of the air while releasing warm air with movement to ensure the maximum amount of drying is taking place.

The last step is having SERVPRO come back out to the property to conduct daily monitoring of the equipment to ensure everything that needs to be dry is dry and taken care of until we no longer need the equipment on property.

This picture shows the mold remediation process of badly damaged studs that were treated with antimicrobial and encapsulated. The constant leaking water gave life to little microorganisms “MOLD” that eventually flourished and started the decaying process of their drywall.

If you suspect a water leak or mold give SERVPRO of Centennial Hills Las Vegas a call so we can help get those undesirable spaces looking top notch and free from stagnant water and mold. We have highly trained professionals that we can deploy to your business to seek out where the leaks are coming from and give you the knowledge to help prevent further plumbing leaks and what to look for.

Flood Zones

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

Home during a flood Home located in a flood zone. water and mud filled this home during a flood following heavy rains.

Flood damage can be devastating for homeowners and restoring normality after water damage is no easy task. Las Vegas residents have seen the massive flooding in the valley, cars being swept away, and rescue mission from first responders but what we don't always see is the damage done to the homes after the flood. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills has some tips for those that live in known flood zones or even for those who want be proactive in safeguarding their property.

  • During stormy weather conditions, lock all doors and windows
  • Place sandbags around door and window openings: keep sandbags in your garage or storage to be prepared for these occasions
  • Collect other emergency materials like buckets, plywood, waterproof plastic sheeting, duct tape, and shovels
  • Listen out for flood alerts in your area
  • Run through an emergency procedure with your family – plan what you will do and where you will go if a flood hits
  • Ensure everyone in the house knows how to shut off utilities in an emergency
  • Store your important documents and valuable items in a secure, high location – like a secure water-tight safe stored on top of a wardrobe, or in the highest point of your house
  • Install flood-proof doors in your home (or at least the outside doors) to prevent all possible water from entering the property.

We hope these tips have helped you prepare for future floods, whether you reside in Vegas or elsewhere. Remember to keep safe and seek shelter on high ground as soon as possible during flooding.

Rain storm damage!

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

Water puddle in ceiling caused by a roof leak Finding a water puddle in a ceiling.

Las Vegas can go 100+ days with no rain, but we are no stranger to heavy rainstorms in the valley. We often see news reports about flash flooding and traffic accidents but we do not always hear about the damages it causes to homes here in Las Vegas. The most common issue SERVPRO of Centennial Hills comes across during or even after a rain storm is a roof leak. Normal wear and tear on a roof can lead to a leak during a storm. Heavy winds can also cause damage to the roof then result in a leak. Water travels through the damaged area and begins to pool on a flat surface. As the amount of water increases and time passes by the materials begin to weaken. You can see in this photos the discoloration caused by the water pooling. You can also see the water has saturated the drywall causing a bubble to form in the paint. You then risk the potential growth of mold and mildew. It is important to have trained professionals like SERVPRO of Centennial Hills arrive on site as soon as possible to remove the damaged materials and begin the process of drying the structure to eliminate further damage.

Family Safety Plan

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

Devastating Home Fire All Families should have a safety plan and review the plan together often.

Freezing conditions

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

Cracked plumbing Backyard shed plumbing system cracked from water being frozen.

Remember: The water that is inside your outside plumbing systems can possibly freeze thus causing the frozen water to expand making the pipe crack. Making preventive pipe maintenance a priority is always best practice.

Mother Nature does what she does.

Aftermath of a house fire Understanding the importance of Homeowner's Insurance

A house fire can literally put you and your family on the street. Every household or business should have some sort of fire plan, if not give SERVPRO of Centennial Hills a call and enroll your property with SERVPRO’s Emergency Ready Plan. It’s free enrollment.

Safety considerations aside, having your home ravaged by flames, firefighters dousing it in water and chemicals to stop the spread of the fire, and then possibly being displaced is an experience like no other. Even though well-meaning friends and family can be of incredible support, it is vital that you reach out to the experts when considering your next steps in recovering your home from a fire.

If your Las Vegas home experiences a fire you can do well by calling our SERVPRO team as soon as the emergency is under control. Our team is in place and ready to take action 24/7 as we recognize that disaster can strike at any time. With our thorough training process, our team can arrive and assess the areas of immediate need and identify what needs to get done in order to prevent further damages. Even more important, our team's expertise can be of great assistance as you contact your insurance and file a claim.

Most homeowners seek to file a claim as soon as a disaster happens. SERVPRO suggests to immediately contact your insurer to dispatch an adjuster to evaluate the fire damage. We work with many insurance agencies to coordinate a comprehensive cleanup and restoration service. Your adjuster provides a budget after documenting the damage to the structure and your contents. We also take photos and use the Xactimate computer program to itemize the equipment used and the work performed, all within the budget.

The faster we can begin, the less secondary damage will occur. We understand the scope of a significant fire damaging event, and we strive to reduce your stress, and eventually make you feel "Like it never even happened."

Reaching out to SERVPRO of Centennial Hills of Las Vegas at 702-947-0947 is not only convenient, but a smart decision to protect your home and finances.

Prevention is Key

11/16/2022 (Permalink)

smoke Detector Take steps to prevent a fire.

The scientific research behind smoke alarms and how they protect your home is always evolving. The mission behind each organization that participates in this important research is to protect people in their homes and to reduce life and economic loss due to fire.

There are two types of smoke alarms generally used in homes:

*Ionization

*Photoelectric

These two types of smoke alarms sense the presence of smoke differently.

The type of smoke produced by a fire depends on the type of fire, Flaming fires and smoldering fire give off different types of smoke Both alarms detect the smoke from either a smoldering fire or a flaming fire.

  • Ionization smoke alarms tend to respond faster to the smoke produced by flaming fires than photoelectric smoke alarms.
  • Photoelectric smoke alarms tend to respond faster to the smoke produced by smoldering fires than ionization smoke alarms.

In testing the result of these time differences have been mixed , some test result times are trivial while others are considerable.

No one can say one type is better then the other due to every fire being so different. The USFA recommends that every home and place where people sleep be equipped with either a ionization or photoelectric smoke alarms, or a dual sensor smoke alarms.

Whatever type of alarm you choose remember to conduct regular maintenance and battery testing to ensure the safety of your home.

Water intrusion from A roof leak

Blue painters tape on ceiling showing water migration Using painters tape to help reveal water migration helps the customer witness the problem immediately.

The picture is not that exciting, but a small indicator of where the water migrated to and what materials could possibly be affected in the ceiling.

This Las Vegas home experienced a huge water loss from a roof leak.  SERVPRO of Centennial Hills was able to extract and dry the water that was coming through, but during our assessment we also discovered other areas of the house with these small ceiling stains which the owner said had been there for years.  SERVPRO strongly recommended to the owner that these are telltale signs of that another roof leak that could happen again if not addressed. The homeowners made preparations and started the process of looking into further repairs to their roof.

We offer 24 hours emergency services and are ready to tackle any disaster you are experiencing.  Let us help you!!

Thriving Mold Growth

10/7/2022 (Permalink)

Moldy drywall behind the toilet Once mold is discovered, the best practice is to remove affected materials to ensure mold isn’t hiding elsewhere.

Life throws at us many challenges as well as our home's plumbing system. Once again SERVPRO of Centennial Hills received a call about a plumbing burst from a fresh water supply line to a toilet. When we arrived, this seasonal home was in unbelievably bad shape as far as the loss goes. The water had been spraying for quite some time without warning for the homeowner. We were able to stop the water intrusion and start assessing for further damages to the home.

The picture shows excessive amounts of mold growth on the walls, ceiling and trim. The owners have not occupied this residence in four months. Mold growth can get out of hand quick with the right atmospheric temperature and water availability. Mold has the potential to destroy a home structurally and create health effects.

Going forward the best advice we can give is have a trusting friend or family member keep an eye on your seasonal dwelling in order to help prevent this kind of loss.

Mold Discovery

Often times business owners get busy and unintentionally overlook certain work stations, then unforeseen damages start to show their ugly faces.

This picture shows badly damaged drywall and mold.

Crime scene clean up

Living room in disarray Crime strikes before Christmas, SERVPRO takes to the scene.

When crime enters your home remember, you are never alone. We understand the damage at hand, and more importantly empathize with our customers. Our ultimate goal at SERVPRO of Centennial Hills is to ensure every customer need is taken care of. The photo shown was taken a week before Christmas, when the night before, a break in occurred. This Las Vegas resident’s home was covered with tear gas residue, and destroyed in an effort to catch the suspect. When we received the call, a team was dispatched immediately to help the victims of this household, and accompanied them with whatever needs they had. By the end of the month cleaning the household day-in and day-out, we restored their home as best we could. 30 canisters of tear gas had entered this home, and every item within the two story household needed to be cleaned/quarantined. In the downstairs kid’s bedroom a fire took place when a tear gas canister was fired through a nearby window, setting flame to their bed sheets. Every wall, ceiling, and floor in the house was scrubbed and mopped until no residue was left. With the hardworking teams at SERVPRO of Centennial Hills, and the technology at our disposal, everything is restorable. LIKE IT NEVER EVEN HAPPENED.

Standing Water

9/15/2022 (Permalink)

Help! Help! My house is flooded everywhere!”
SERVPRO of Centennial Hills is here to help!”

Raining in the Garage!

9/15/2022 (Permalink)

In life we take things for granted for example garages. We come home, park the car in the garage and head right inside the house day in and day out not taking time toglance around the garage. It is very important to take the time to look around all areas of your home including the garage and look for signs of change that do not seem right for example paint discoloration or that familiar term everyone uses “COFFEE STAINING” brownish look on walls and ceiling. If you happen to see this at your residence or commercial properties, the smart thing to do is call us immediately so we can test for moisture and find where the problem is coming from and prevent secondary damage of mold growth.

The picture shows air movers, dehumidifiers and ducting to pump hot dry air to the affected area to help speed up the drying process of materials.

When we arrived, we noticed brown staining on the surface of the ceiling and heavy amounts of moisture as well and once we opened up the ceiling we noticed a plumbing leak and excessive amounts of mold present. Since then the garage was treated for mold and put back "Like it never even happened."

COVID-19 preventative

Here at SERVPRO of Centennial Hills we pride ourselves on taking the time to get a service resolved in a professional and timely manner. One of these services includes disinfecting with our own SERVPROXIDE antimicrobial. In the event that a customer calls in with a confirmed COVID-19 case and SERVPRO arrives at the scene, these are the steps to take in order to get the job done...

  • Wear respiratory and eye protection to avoid possible contamination
  • All SERVPRO members MUST be sprayed and disinfected themselves before entering into the property

Step 2: Gear Up

  • Grab all necessary equipment needed to accomplish the job

(i.e. SERVPROXIDE, Fogging machine, clean towels, extension chords, etc)

Step 3: Disinfect

  • The SERVPRO fogger takes the liquid SERVPROXIDE antimicrobial and disperses it into a very fine mist(fog)
  • Allow the fog to settle for 10-15 minutes before wiping high-touch areas

(I.e keyboards, coffee machines, countertops, cabinets, door handles, etc)

Step 4: Clean Up

  • Once the affected areas have been disinfected and wiped, all SERVPRO team members will go outside to be sprayed and disinfected once more before removing the full body suit
  • After everyone is back in their normal SERVPRO attire, the body suits and gloves are put in biohazard bags to be properly disposed
  • The goggles and respirators are put into a trash bag to be taken back to SERVPRO HQ to be properly disinfected and wiped down themselves

These are all the necessary precautions to get a COVID-19 job done effectively!

Trapped Water

Trapped water discovery behind insulation Insulation can drastically impede drying efforts of materials if not removed.

This photo shows water discovery after the removal of drywall and insulation. Insulation must be removed in order to prevent the possibility of secondary damage of mold growth to wood studs.

This Las Vegas resident experienced a sudden water burst from a fresh water line supply to their washing machine. Unfortunately the resident was not home when the plumbing failure occurred and returned home to a complete devastating situation. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills was dispatched and started the water mitigation progress.

Although materials need to be removed it is the proper way to ensure the wet materials are getting dry. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills Team has excellent knowledge of how buildings are constructed in order to help us get materials dry. Give Our SERVPRO team a call if you suspect a water intrusion to your home or business. We are standing by 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Toilet seal leak

1/11/2022 (Permalink)

Picture of a toilet detached from plumbing system Toilet seal wear and tear can cause damage to a wood subfloor.

The next course of action was to immediately treat the wood subfloor and replace the wax ring, set the toilet back into place, hook up the water supply line and put a fresh bead of caulking all around the base of the toilet to seal it.

Water Mitigation

1/11/2022 (Permalink)

Servpro employee extracting water off the floor The first step in water mitigation is EXTRACTION!

Help! Help! “My house is flooded and there’s water everywhere!”
“No need to fear, SERVPRO is here!”

Lightning storms…

Lightning over the Las Vegas strip Lightning storm over the Las Vegas strip.

Stay safe!

Plumbing failure

Ceiling drywall damage from plumbing leak Removed ceiling drywall to prevent falling materials.

Water Intrusion from Ceiling plumbing leak.

There are many areas of a home that may be affected by water damage due to natural “wear and tear” that happens inside the walls that most people wont see or recognize. In this specific instance the customer contacted SERVPRO of Centennial Hills because of water beginning to flood the downstairs kitchen and into the living room.

Once we arrived on scene we shut the main water supply off from the street, which is always the “go-to” when no other water shut off can be found on property. After the water supply was shut off, we began extracting the water to get as much of it up as possible off the floor to minimize as much damage as possible. Once the water is extracted the next step is get out moisture meters to test which walls contain water inside them in order to perform one to two foot flood cuts to open up the walls and let them “breathe”. This way, with everything opened, we can see where the broken pipe was causing the leak.

The last step after extracting and demolition have occurred is to place equipment such as dehumidifiers and air-movers. This is to get any moisture out of the air and to get airflow in the affected area(s) moving to ensure the walls and flooring are dried efficiently and in a timely manner.

Complete devastation

12/2/2021 (Permalink)

Club house on fire at golf course A fire in your home can be devastating

Residential Flood Zone

12/1/2021 (Permalink)

Residential home with active flooding Local homeowners worst nightmare

Step 1: Suit Up

  • SERVPRO team members must put on a full body, protective tyvex suit

Fire prevention

11/22/2021 (Permalink)

A picture of a fire alarm smoke detector One of the greatest inventions in saving your home.

Fire damage on outside wall of home Fire damage on the outside wall of a home.

There are many devastating forms of damage that can happen to your home or to your business. Frozen Pipes!

11/12/2021 (Permalink)

Frozen pipe When water freezes inside the plumbing it expands causing damage to the plumbing system.

Roof Leak

11/11/2021 (Permalink)

Picture of Ceiling damage from rain storm Ceiling damage from rain storm.

Here in Las Vegas we can go 100+ days with no rain but we are no stranger to heavy rainstorms in the valley.

Water damage staining from leak Damaged ceiling from a fresh water line leak.

The picture is not that exciting, but a small indicator of what is to come.

Mold discovery!!

Mold contaminated bathroom

Life throws at us many challenges as well as our home's plumbing system. Once again SERVPRO of Centennial Hills received a call about a plumbing burst from a fresh water supply line to a toilet. When we arrived, this seasonal home was in unbelievably bad shape as far as the loss goes. The water had been spraying for quite some time without warning for the homeowner. We were able to stop the water burst and start assessing for further damages to the home.

Air movers ducted into affected area to enhance drying efforts Air movers ducted into affected area in order to enhance drying efforts.

In life we take things for granted for example patio roofing. It is very important to take the time to look around all areas of your home including the patio roofing and look for signs of change that do not seem right for example paint discoloration or that familiar term everyone uses “COFFEE STAINING” brownish look on walls and ceiling or missing roof tiles If you happen to see this at your residence or commercial properties, the smart thing to do is call us immediately so we can test for moisture and find where the problem is coming from and prevent secondary damage of mold growth.

The picture shows air movers ducting to pump dry air into the affected area to help speed up the drying process of materials.

When we arrived this home had just went through heavy storm event that blew off shingles then pouring rain flooded their kitchen. Then we noticed paint bubbling, staining on the surface of the ceiling in the kitchen and heavy amounts of moisture as well and once we opened up the ceiling we noticed sun light peaking through. Since then the studs in the ceiling were treated with anti microbial to prevent secondary damage like mold. Eventually all new materials were put back "Like it never even happened."

Hardwood flooring rescue

8/6/2021 (Permalink)

Rescue mat being applied to hard wood flooring Rescue mat system being place on hardwood flooring.

When water happens to meet wood flooring, time is critical. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills received a call about a water loss emergency involving a fresh water line rupture in the kitchen. When SERVPRO arrived at the emergency, it was time for immediate water extraction and assessment for any possible secondary damage. During the water extraction process, we knew that the flooring was actual hard wood so we had little time before cupping would occur. After extracting with the Hand Wand extractor, we were still getting high moisture readings under the surface of the flooring and realized we needed to take further action in order to save the flooring.

The picture shows the Rescue mat extraction system in action along with other equipment such as air movers and dehumidifiers. We put the Rescue mat extraction system to the test; extracting the water from underneath the flooring while holding pressure on the flooring in order to prevent the cupping affect. After a few days of constant monitoring and equipment adjustments, SERVPRO of Centennial Hills succeeded in saving these homeowners beloved hard wood floors.

Disinfecting before entering positive COVID 19 area In the medical field there’s a saying “Scrub in and Scrub out” when entering a room. This is how we do it before entering.

Step 1: Suit Up

  • SERVPRO team members must put on a full body, protective tyvex suit
  • Tape the seam between gloves and the suit to prevent exposure

Shower door seal failure

Mold on drywall from a leaky shower door seal Shower door seal failure

Oftentimes we take things for granted, for instance a shower door seal. Day in and day out we use the shower and don’t realize how something so small can be devastating when it no longer does its job.

Unfortunately this Las Vegas resident noticed pieces of his shower door seal flapping around every time he opened and closed the shower door. This failure caused warm water to constantly leak into the nearby wall thus causing mold damage to drywall, wood framing, wood trim/baseboards, tile and wood subfloor. The damages were pretty extensive at the cost of a cheap door seal. When you have the chance take 5 minutes of your time, check those shower door seals and any other seals that are installed to prevent water entry into your home or business. If you suspect a leak give SERVPRO of Centennial Hills a call. 702-947-0947. We provide a free water leak and moisture detection inspection.

Shower/Tub plumbing failure

Wet drywall removal from plumbing leak Removing ceiling drywall to start the drying process of wood subfloor.

This Las Vegas customer noticed a large cone shaped object forming on the ceiling inside her home.  SERVPRO of Centennial Hills was called to help assess the problem and figured out she had a plumbing leak from the upstairs shower tub which made it possible for water to get trapped in her ceiling.  SERVPRO was able to follow the water migration to the leaky portion of her plumbing and stop the leak.

Our team removed all the wet drywall and insulation and started the drying process immediately. After removing the wet drywall the owner was so grateful that moisture was taken away to not promote further problems like mold growth. The sense of relief on the customer's face was very rewarding.

If you see signs of discoloration on your walls and ceilings give SERVPRO of Centennial Hills a call.

Kitchen plumbing failure

5/3/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO employee using the Hepa Vacuum One of the steps we take when cleaning up mold is to use a Hepa filtered vacuum.

SERVPRO of Centennial Hills got a water loss call from a customer complaining about their kitchen faucet leaking.

When SERVPRO arrived, we empathized with the customer's concerns and quickly jumped into action. Upon closer assessment, further mold damage was noticed.

Originating from a faulty drainpipe in the kitchen sink, leaking water seemed to soak the subfloor of the second floor of this apartment.

Because of the exceedingly high moisture readings, paired with information that the downstairs garage was just below the sink, SERVPRO gained access to the garage and discovered water infiltration into the downstairs garage ceiling.

After the mold was removed in the affected areas, air movers, scrubbers and dehumidifiers were set up in the upstairs kitchen and in the downstairs garage.

With a desiccant dehumidifier placed in the garage as well as the air movers, this task was completed aggressively because the affected areas were targeted from two areas.

Detach and Reset

1/14/2021 (Permalink)

Detach and Reset Bathroom carpet removal

Here at SERVPRO of Centennial Hills, we’ve seen it all and we’ve done it all. We got a call from a customer whose toilet had been leaking from the toiler seal and crept into her carpet.

Water Extraction

1/14/2021 (Permalink)

Water on Wood Flooring Water Extraction

”Help! Help! My house is flooded and there’s water everywhere!”
“No need to fear, SERVPRO is here!”

Plumbing burst

Water over wood flooring Water Intrusion from Guest Bathroom

There are many areas of a home that may be affected by water damage due to natural “wear and tear” that happens inside the walls that most people wont see or recognize. In this specific instance the customer contacted SERVPRO of Centennial Hills because of water beginning to flood the downstairs bathroom and into the living room.

Helping a local business in the fight against COVID 19

Wipe down of high traffic touch areas Wipe down of high traffic touch areas.

This local Las Vegas business had a bit of a scare when one of their employees tested positive for COVID 19. This business did their due diligence and called SERVPRO of Centennial Hills to help them out by providing them a quick solution to their dilemma. Once they called us we dispatched our team and arrived on sight within an hour of their call.

To limit exposure this business owner sectioned off this particular room and sent her employees out to get tested to prevent further exposure. The quick thinking of the owner was very commendable showing she cared about her employees and clients by limiting their exposure to the virus.

By the time SERVPRO of Centennial Hills arrived we suited up and waited for direction from the owner of the affected area. We proceeded to the area and started to apply the SERVPROXIDE using micro misting to maximize as much surface area as possible. After fogging we wiped all high traffic surface areas.

Have a Safety Plan

12/11/2020 (Permalink)

Blazing fire take over a home A fire in your home can be devastating.

Insane facts about lightning

12/11/2020 (Permalink)

Lightning Storm Lightning Storm over the Las Vegas skyline.

Stay safe!

Smoke alarms

11/23/2020 (Permalink)

Smoke alarm Smoke alarms can save property and lives.

Step 1: Suit Up

  • SERVPRO team members must put on a full body, protective tyvex suit
  • Tape the seam between gloves and the suit to prevent exposure

Preparing for a flood

11/18/2020 (Permalink)

Flash Flood Sign Turn around don't drown! Stay safe during flash floods.

Winter Weather

11/17/2020 (Permalink)

frozen pipes Frozen pipes during frigid winter weather.

Heavy Rain

11/17/2020 (Permalink)

Ceiling damage from rain storm Discoloration and bubbling in the ceiling from rain water leaking through the roof.

Here in Las Vegas we can go 100+ days with no rain but we are no stranger to heavy rainstorms in the valley. It is important to have trained professionals like SERVPRO of Centennial Hills arrive on site as soon as possible to remove the damaged materials and begin the process of drying the structure to eliminate further damage.

water stain on ceiling from roof leak Water stain/damage from roof leak

The picture is not that exciting, but a small indicator of what is to come.

Moldy bathroom Mold contaminated bathroom

Life throws at us many challenges as well as our home's plumbing system. Once again SERVPRO of Centennial Hills received a call about a plumbing burst from a fresh water supply line to a toilet. When we arrived, this seasonal home was in unbelievably bad shape as far as the loss goes. The water had been spraying for quite some time without warning for the homeowner. We were able to stop the water burst and start assessing for further damages to the home.

HVAC Duct cleaning system

10/2/2020 (Permalink)

HVAC duct cleaning system HVAC duct cleaning system

Let’s talk about why you should consider cleaning your HVAC air ducts in your home or commercial business.

Over time debris collects in the air ducts thus causing your HVAC system to work harder causing your power bill to increase and your bill goes up. Cleaning the air ducts help remove unpleasant smells and odors, reduces allergens and irritants, importantly creates a cleaner living/working environment within your home or business.

Here are some obvious tips to look for if your duct system is ready for a cleaning.

1. Mold present

2. Dust on vent/registers

3. Allergy like symptoms

4. Increased dust in your home/business

Let SERVPRO of Centennial Hills help create a cleaner and healthier environment for your home or business.

It came from above...

Air Movers and Dehumidifiers Air Movers and Dehumidifiers working together to create a dryer environment

When water meets wood...

8/4/2020 (Permalink)

Rescue mat water extraction system Rescue mat extraction in action!

When water happens to meet wood flooring, time is critical. SERVPRO of Centennial Hills received a call about a water loss emergency involving a reverse osmosis water purification system.

Excessive mold loss

6/22/2020 (Permalink)

Moldy closet Moldy closet

A reverse osmosis system burst while the owners of the home were out of town.

A few months later when the owners came back they had damp floors and excessive mold growth everywhere.

Pictured below does no justice in describing as to the sheer amount of non-stop water damage that affected the inside of this two-story home, for three months straight.

They called SERVPRO of Centennial Hills for help and we quickly started the mold remediation process to get their house back the way it was.

SERVPRO set up a three stage containment area for don/doff of PPE i.e. Tyvex suits, P100 performance respirators, Nitrile gloves to be worn under heavy duty work gloves, eye protection, and duct tape to properly adhere our gloves to the Tyvex suits.

After securing their belongings within the home, we started on the first floor by removing every square inch carpet and tile.

SERVPRO then focused on the drywall; every square foot of it on the first floor.

Easily the most daunting task was removing all of the blow-in type insulation on the first floor.

Next, nails and staples were removed from every single stud.

SERVPRO followed this up by palm-sanding every stud-twice.

After palm sanding, SERVPRO wire-brushed every stud-twice.

To monitor the efficacy of SERVPRO and it's services, IAQ was sprayed to check any studs that still harbored mold or bacteria.

Following this, SERVPROXIDE was sprayed on every stud for good measure.

SERVPRO consulted a mold inspector for the final inspection and he noted the phenomenal work, passing the inspection with flying colors.

The owners were so grateful that SERVPRO was right beside them during their hard times helping to make things better for them.

Roof leak

6/8/2020 (Permalink)

PAINT BUBBLE Trapped rainwater in the ceiling.

After a heavy rain storm in Las Vegas a customer noticed a large cone shaped object forming on the ceiling inside her home.  SERVPRO of Centennial Hills was called to help assess the problem and figured out she had a roof leak that made it possible for rainwater to get inside and pool in her ceiling.  SERVPRO was able to follow the water migration to the leaky portion of her roof to get it repaired.

Micro misting and disinfecting the cars of our frontline heroes

Vehicle disinfecting Interior fogging

On Tuesday, May 19th, 2020, SERVPRO of Centennial Hills performed a disinfectant service for the medical staff working on the frontline during these unprecedented times at Centennial Hospital.

From 8am to 8pm, SERVPRO offered our expert services.

Our services consisted of utilizing a high-flow aerosol device to fog the interior of these vehicles with SERVPROXIDE, then wiping down high touch areas including, but not limited to, steering wheel, dashboard, gear shifter, door handles, control knobs, air vents, door handles and trunk space.

SERVPRO went back to Centennial Hills hospital to do the same thing again on Friday.

Our heroes on the frontline were incredibly grateful for our services.

Shortly after these two events, the CEO of Centennial Hills Hospital sent SERVPRO a letter of thanks for supporting the frontline staff during these trying times.

Water loss that became a mold loss

5/29/2020 (Permalink)

Mold hiding behind the kitchen cabinets. Wet and Moldy drywall!

Along with removing the kitchen tile upstairs, we removed the drywall in the downstairs garage ceiling.
